Your role
As a Data Scientist specializing in AI, you will design and implement machine learning algorithms and deep learning models to tackle complex problems. You will work with massive datasets to train neural networks, experiment with model architectures, and optimize performance for production deployment. Your work will contribute to the core AI capabilities that power our products and services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and implement machine learning models and neural networks for digital signal data processing
- Collaborate with Data Engineers to preprocess and clean large datasets, ensuring high-quality data for model training
- Work with other experts to define and implement scalable on-premise storage and compute infrastructure for large-scale sensor data collection and machine learning operating on sensitive data
- Conduct exploratory data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and features relevant to model development
- Experiment with different neural network architectures (e.g., CNNs, RNNs, GANs, transformers) to improve model accuracy and performance
- Optimize models for scalability, robustness, and deployment in production environments
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product managers, software engineers, and data engineers, to translate business requirements into AI solutions
- Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in AI/ML, neural networks, and deep learning research, and apply state-of-the-art techniques to enhance model performance
- Present findings and model outcomes to stakeholders, providing actionable insights and recommendations
Since Saab is a global company, this role requires fluent communication in both English and Finnish, with customers and colleagues both in Finland and internationally.
This role may require some travelling, mainly occasional short visits to Sweden.
Your skills and experience
Following skills and experience will be highly beneficial in this role:
- Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in data science, with a strong focus on AI, machine learning, and deep learning
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R, with experience in AI/ML libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, Keras, scikit-learn)
- Expertise in designing and training neural network models (e.g., CNNs, RNNs, LSTMs, GANs, transformers) for real-world applications
- Strong understanding of machine learning algorithms, including supervised, unsupervised, and reinforcement learning
- Experience with data preprocessing and feature engineering for large and complex datasets (structured and unstructured)
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate business problems into data science solutions
- Excellent communication skills to present technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
Additional skills and experience that will be beneficial, but not mandatory:
- PhD in Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field
- Experience working on AI applications in domains like computer vision, NLP, or recommendation systems
- Knowledge of reinforcement learning, transfer learning, or meta-learning
- Hands-on experience with real-time data streaming technologies (e.g., Apache Kafka, Kinesis) for AI-driven applications
- Familiarity with MLOps practices for deploying, monitoring, and managing machine learning
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and distributed computing frameworks (e.g., Spark, Dask) for training large-scale models
