Corporate social responsibility
Saab’s social responsibilities are taken seriously wherever we operate in the world. In the United Kingdom Saab UK is willingly engaged in its obligations to serving, veteran and reserve armed forces personnel, to equality and diversity as well as to compliance with wider ethical and security business practices. This page further illustrates our commitments to British society.
Armed Forces Covenant
In 2015 we became one of 6,000 organisations to sign up to the Armed Forces Covenant and in the spirit of this commitment we actively encourage and support our veteran, reserve and cadet instructor employees. Our reservists frequently volunteer for additional duties and have mobilised to deploy on overseas operations, their experiences enriching our teams upon their return. Veterans and reservists benefit from Saab's recruitment practices and employment terms that are designed to support their particular needs. We also encourage our extensive UK supply chain to sign the covenant. More information about the Armed Forces Covenant can be found here.
For these provisions Saab UK is proud to have been awarded a Gold Employer Recognition Scheme Award.
Charitable giving and sponsorship
Saab UK has for many years actively sponsored armed forces sports such as rugby, winter pentathlon, downhill skiing and bobsleigh, facilitating access to these sports, and the beneficial experiences they bring to our armed forces personnel. In addition to these core activities, we sponsor unit-level activities amongst our installed base users. Many of our staff volunteer for military charities and we provide them with additional paid leave to facilitate their endeavours.
Women in Defence
Saab UK was one of the initial signatories to the Women in Defence Charter when it was established in September 2019. We are committed to the charter’s goal of 30% female representation in the business by 2030.
Within Saab we also have our own targets. Saab’s pledge sits at 25% female representation by 2025. These goals help us to measure the impact of our hiring and ensure a diverse and fair workplace. The global Saab business doubled its share of women in managing roles between within a 7 year period.
Best Practice Compliance
Our business actively complies with international and British best practice including modern slavery, taxation, Cyber Essentials Plus and the Prompt Payment Code.
